Custom Kitchen Cabinets
New boxes are the right answer less often than a showroom implies. We start every kitchen quote by taking a door off its hinges and looking at the carcass behind it, because a good share of the kitchens we open up here have boxes worth keeping.
Bathroom Vanities
This is the one room where we usually argue against refacing. A vanity is two or three doors and a couple of drawers, so the door order is most of the money anyway, and the box underneath is the part most likely to be finished.
Closet Systems & Wardrobes
Melamine is the correct material for most closets, and we say so before anyone spends on hardwood. A closet lives in conditioned air, holds clothes rather than cast iron, and is mostly looked at with the door standing open.
Garage Storage Cabinets
We will not build garage cabinets from the materials we build kitchens from, and we would turn the job down before we did. An uninsulated garage here runs past a hundred and ten degrees in August with the door standing open.

Built-ins are permanent, which is both the argument for them and the argument against them. Before we scribe anything to a wall we ask what the room is likely to be in ten years, because the honest answer changes the recommendation more than the budget does.
Entertainment Centers & Media Walls
A media wall is a heat problem with doors on it. Receivers, consoles and streaming boxes all dump warmth into an enclosed cavity, and in a room already fighting an afternoon here, that cavity is where the expensive equipment quietly dies years early.
Laundry Room Cabinets
Laundry rooms get built wrong in one specific way: cabinets over a washer that nobody can actually reach, and nowhere flat to fold. The fix is almost always cheaper than a new set of boxes, and we would rather quote the fix.
Pantry Systems
A pantry is the cheapest square footage of storage in any kitchen and the most commonly wasted. Sixteen-inch-deep fixed shelves hold two rows of cans, and the back row quietly turns into a long-running experiment in expiry dates.
Door & Drawer-Front Refacing
Refacing is new doors, new drawer fronts and fresh veneer over the face frames and end panels you already own. It is the correct purchase when the boxes are sound and a waste of money when they are not, so we check before quoting.
Cabinet Hardware & Hinges
Sometimes the entire complaint is hardware. Doors that slam, hinges that sag, knobs somebody painted over in 2004.
Soft-Close & Pull-Out Upgrades
This is the upgrade that talks people out of a remodel, and we are fine with that. If your boxes are solid and the real complaints are slamming doors and a corner cabinet nobody can reach, the fix is retrofit parts and a day of work.
Countertops
Countertops are where reface-or-replace actually gets decided, because the top comes off either way and whatever is underneath it finally becomes visible. We look hard at the sink base and the cabinet rails before quoting anybody a slab.
Kitchen Islands & Peninsulas
An island is the one thing refacing cannot give you, which makes it the most common addition to a reface job here. New doors around the perimeter plus a new island is frequently the entire remodel.
Wine & Bar Cabinets
Ambient wine storage does not work in this climate, and we would rather say so now than build a rack that slowly ruins what you put in it. A cabinet holding bottles at room temperature here is furniture with wine inside it.
Mudroom & Entry Storage
Most houses here do not have a mudroom at all. They have a door from the garage into the kitchen with about three feet of wall beside it, and that three feet is where the entry storage has to happen or it does not happen.
Commercial Casework & Millwork
Commercial casework fails on cycle count rather than on appearance, which is why refacing almost never makes sense in a break room or a clinic. The doors are rarely the part that wore out first, and swapping them leaves the actual problem in place.

The argument is usually about refacing. A great many houses in this county have site-built face-frame cabinets from the 1970s and 1980s whose carcasses are in better condition than the frameless particleboard boxes that would replace them. When that is the case we say so, quote doors, drawer fronts, veneer and hardware, and take the smaller job.
When the sink base has swollen or the run is out of level, we say that too, and we show you the evidence rather than describing it.
There is work we turn down. If you need a kitchen finished in two weeks, if the budget only reaches stock boxes from a big-box store, or if the job needs a wall moved and there is no general contractor involved, we are the wrong company and we will point you to someone better suited. We also will not build MDF or particleboard cabinets for an uninsulated garage at any price, because we know exactly how that ends.

We install, shim the run level, set every reveal with six-way hinges, and touch up on site. The workmanship warranty is written and it is handed to you.

Is cabinet refacing worth it in Edinburg?
Often, yes. A lot of houses in this county date from the 1970s through the early 1990s and have site-built face-frame cabinets in oak or pine, and those carcasses are frequently better than what would replace them. If the boxes are sound, refacing buys you the entire appearance change for a fraction of a replacement, in days rather than weeks. If the boxes are not sound, refacing is money thrown at a failing cabinet, and we will say so.
How can I tell whether my cabinet boxes are worth keeping?
Open the sink base and press the floor and the front rail with your thumb. If it gives, the deck has taken water and that cabinet needs replacing. Then check whether the case is plywood or particleboard, whether the face frame joints are still tight, whether hinge screws have been re-drilled, and whether shelves have bowed. One failed check does not condemn a kitchen, but it changes what we recommend.
What does refacing cost compared with new cabinets?
Refacing is a fraction of a full replacement because you are buying doors, drawer fronts, veneer and hardware rather than carcasses, demolition, disposal and a countertop reset. The exact spread depends on your door count and whether you also want new drawer boxes. We quote both on the same sheet so you can see the difference rather than take our word for it.
How long will my kitchen be out of use?
A reface typically runs a few days on site because the doors and panels are already finished when they arrive. A full replacement is a longer job, since the old cabinets come out, the countertop comes off and goes back on, and the plumbing and electrical have to be reconnected. Either way we work in a sequence that keeps a sink and a range usable most nights.

Will veneer and thermofoil hold up in the heat here?
Wood veneer laid properly does, provided the contact cement is fully flashed off before the sheet goes down and the frame was degreased with solvent rather than a household cleaner. Rigid thermofoil is a different story: the skin can release from its substrate next to a range or a dishwasher vent, so we steer people toward five-piece paint-grade or solid wood doors around heat sources.
